I think this is a great service project...we see several homeless gentlemen each day on our way to school...we try to speak to them and yes give them money....or food...but, we had never thought about giving them a bag like the blessing bag...we are anxious to be able to give them this thoughtful bag full of things that they can really use!

Thank you, Pastor Dave, for these scriptures. They give us much to consider and to pray about concerning the attitudes of our own hearts. Thank you.

My mother started planting the seeds by taking us to church as little kids. Then in college, I met a guy who worked with me at the student center. He nurtured our friendship, explained to me the gospel and gently led me over several weeks of searching to the point when I accepted Christ's lordship and the gift of salvation. I learned many years later, that I great-aunt (whom I barely knew) had been praying for me my entire life.

My mom was instrumental in starting me on my faith journey. While attending a non-denominational Bible study she learned that contrary to what we had been taught, faith in Christ is through grace and not earned. While driving me to practices and other events she would speak to me about all that she was learning. I wanted to yell at her to shut up, but all her words came flooding back when, a few years later, a coworker shared these same truths with me. Parents, your children may appear not to be listening, but the Word does not return void!! There has since been many wonderful people at Third and at CBS that have been Godly examples of how Christ would have us live.

Many many people were influential in my coming to faith. Perhaps the most influential were my youth group leaders. They loved and accepted me as a teen, while also sharing about their own faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. They lived their lives in a way that communicated their faith to us teens, and demonstrated in a concrete way what it meant to live a life for Jesus. I am so grateful for them!

I grew up at Third and was fortunate to have many wonderful family members, mentors and leaders influence my faith. I accepted Christ on the Third Pres middle school retreat at Camp Willow Run. Pete Bowell (Associate Pastor at Hope Church) was the youth minister then and was one of the main influences in the beginning of my faith journey. He had--and still has--such a heart for youth and such a desire for them to know God's love--it is contagious. I am honored to be working with the youth at Third now and hope that I can help nurture that same passion to know our Savior.
